Imam masterminded bus burning in Hyderabad : Police

Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh) : A group of 15 persons, including an Imam of a mosque, were allegedly responsible for the RTC bus burning incident at Kalapather near the Mir Alam filter bed on the night of January 21 (Monday), the police claimed.

While the Imam of Masjid-e-Badar, Syed Dastagiri, and seven others were arrested, a hunt was on for the other accused, South Zone DCP Tarun Joshi said at a press conference on Wednesday.

The group wanted to create a sensation in the Old City taking advantage of the current volatile situation, he said.

The DCP maintained that the incident had no communal angle.

“None of the persons involved in the bus burning case have any political affiliations. Barring Dastagiri, most of the other accused are youngsters,” Mr. Joshi said.
