Hindus today are forgetting their very existence! – Dr. Samant

By Staff Reporter

Mumbai:
“Hindus are pathetically lacking in Leadership! Those Hindus of the nation who are considered prestigious and powerful in today’s society have actually forgotten the spiritual history of their own religion due to which they have no feelings or concerns about what is going to be the state of their religion or Dharma in the near future.” said Dr. Durgesh Samant

“Hindus lack the ability to form collective and united groups to face the atrocities on their religion.  They also lack the knowledge and ability to protect their own religion because they do not follow ‘Dharma-acharan’ or the code of conduct laid down by the ancient Hindu religion.  Due to this fact, sadly ‘the Hindu Religion’ had become just a topic of discussion for the Hindus.”

Dr. Duregesh Samant, the Dharma-Prasar spokesperson of Hindu Jana-Jagruti Samiti expressed the pathetic state of the Hindu religion in the above words; he further added that “When Hinduism is being attacked today from all four sides, Hindus are not doing anything about it and have forgotten their very existence as a religion.”

Dr. Durgesh Samant relayed this strong message on behalf of Shri Tulsidas GOpalji Charitable Trust and Dhakleshwar Temple, at an event organized for the renovation of the Dhakleshwar temple at Mahalkshmi, Mumbai.  The event was basically a talk on ‘Worship of Lord Shiva and the Evergreen (Sanatan) Hindu Religion’ in Hindi.  Around 150 devotees were present for this discourse.  The trustee of the temple Shri Chanchal Chowdhary honored Dr. Durgesh Samant on this occasion.

The story of ‘Sati’

According to a popular legend, a King named Raja Daksha who was the father of Princess Sati, Lord Shiva’s consort, insulted Lord Shiva for his austere lifestyle and simple looks.  This naturally offended Princess Sati as she loved her husband Lord Shiva more than her own life.  As mentioned in the Dharma, if someone insults the Deities the devotees are expected to take one of the following three steps: 1) Oppose the one who insults the Deity/God strongly. (2) If one does not have the strength to oppose the insulting person or group, one should leave that place immediately and (3) Do ‘atma-samarpan’ Giving up one’s life for the love of one’s God/Religion/Deity.

In the above legend, Princess Sati gave up her life by jumping into the Yadnya Fire (sacrificial Fires) as she could not bear the insult made by her own father to her husband.

This lesson should be remembered by each and every Shiva devotee and oppose any type of insult being made to their deity – this was the message that Dr. Samant conveyed at this discourse by citing the above example.

Dr. Samant had first touched upon the following information about Lord Shiva at the Dhakleshwar Temple discurse: The function of Lord Shiva, and the meaning of the principle of Lord Shiva, importance of the river Ganga in Lord Shiva’s matted locks, the significance of the snake adorning Lord Shiva’s neck, the importance of Lord Shiva’s ‘Karya’ of dissolution or destruction, the importance of his divine vehicle ‘Nandi’bull, His various avatars, How to propagate Lord Shiva (Upasna), what should one offer to Lord Shiva (the Bel leaves), the importance of the Shiva-Pindi, various Vrats followed in Shiva Upasna, the chant of Lord Shiva, various Mantras pertaining to activating the Shiva Principle, and the spiritual significance and science behind all this in simple and easy to understand vocabulary.

Dr. Samant also provided information on great Kings of yesteryears who were great devotees of Lord Shiva such as : Guptavansh, Chandragupt, Vikramaditya, Pushyamitra, Samudragupt, Yashovardhan, Pruthivi-vallabh, Pulkeshi, Lalita-aditya and Shivaji Maharaj.  Dr. Samant further added: “ Foreign Kingdoms and Rulers proclaimed Hinduism to be a lower category religion after half-studying the worship or activities that Hindus carry out; and the Indians who came to rule after these foreigners are also emulating their predecessors blindly without knowing fully how great their own religion is”.  He said: “Hindus do not have a united and strong stand like other religions have, that is why Hindus are facing so many atrocities today and they cannot come together when they are not united”.

Dr. Samnat continued: “The Hindu temples have always been a target of Muslim invaders. The current Government of Maharashtra also has limited interest in the actual preservation of temples, their real interest lies in the funds accumulated by these temples.  The Hindu Jana-Jangruti Samiti opposes such type of selfish interests on behalf all the temples and the Dhakleshwar temple also provides us their support.”

In the end, Dr. Samant concluded his talk by saying: “Due to Lord Shiva’s grace this huge problem created by the government has been resolved for some time.  The temple for a Hindu is a place of worship, it is his sacred place and a place where he can relate to his religion, a place where he can keep it in an awakened state.  It is due to active temples that the religious activities get help whenever required.  At the same time, the non-religious and unsocial activities carried out at some public Hindu festival celebrations should be immediately stopped and these celebrations should be carried out only in a religious perspective.  For this to happen, the temples should become a prime point and force of educating the society about Hindu Religion”.
